The Squawk's Recycling Center

ree

Something entirely special and unexpected has come right out of this blog....the Squawk has started our very own recycling center in the dark, creepy basement of my house.

Several of my important readers, many of whom are special friends and family members, have started hoarding egg cartons they empty from the grocery store instead of throwing them out. They are saving the cartons for me so I can have a safe place to store my seven to nine dozen chicken eggs I collect every week.

Almost everyday when I get to my desk at work, I have one or two egg cartons waiting for me. When I go to the mailbox, there will be a couple more egg cartons mixed in with my letters. On Sunday at church, Walmart bags full of egg cartons are constantly handed to me. Where will I find my next mystery egg carton?

I absolutely LOVE this! Every time I receive egg cartons from friends, it's like getting a Christmas present. My carton givers go out of their way to bring their treasures to me and it always makes my heart feel full of love and gratitude. Most of the egg cartons I receive are ones I've already filled with eggs before, so they may be used five or six times before finally "biting the dust."

This past fall, the kids were acting bored on a pretty day outside and needed a job to keep them busy. Egg cartons were scattered all throughout my basement, and my small recycling center was OUT OF CONTROL. I gave them the project of collecting the cartons and building me a beautiful, princess castle outside. They had a bit of fun building the tower, knocking it over, and had not so much fun helping me organize all the egg cartons into one section of the basement.

Thank you for all my egg carton givers! AND I need a TON more, because.....Kelly is getting 10 more babies in two months!!! Next fall I should be getting about 15 dozen eggs per week, I'm so excited!

Thanks for reading my Country Squawk,

Kelly

It is great to hear that yo have so many thoughtful friends.

Also, fifteen dozen eggs a week sounds like an amazing accomplishment. Congratulations to you and your chickens.
