The Squawk is Back in Action

ree

Holidays....death....family drama....winter chicken problems....Elf on a Shelf, yada, yada, yada. My last post was before Thanksgiving, which seems like an eternity ago. I apologize greatly for the delay. Like everyone else, my life seemed to go completely out of control around the holidays, and unfortunately, Kelly's Country Squawk got lost in the shuffle of my chaos. But, I'm slowly returning to writing and have great hopes and aspirations for 2023.

I've decided to resubmit several of my stories to publishers and agents this year. Although I'm hoping I'll have great news to share with you about one of my "book babies" being published, I'm pretty sure I'll have 200 more rejections in my inbox very soon. It's amazing how different stories look after leaving them in my Writer's Folder on my computer for six months. I feel like I need to strip them down and completely rewrite them! This may be a good thing.

Like most years, I've asked for a copy of Children's Writer's & Illustrators Markets for Christmas to peruse hundreds of publishers and agents who may be interested in my types of stories, and like most years, Santa brought me a copy (thanks, Cheryl: ). The whole publishing process is so complicated, competitive, time sucking, and totally overwhelming! I spent a day at home, sick on the couch with a box of Kleenex, trying to read through my book with a highlighter figuring out a game plan.

One part of the whole publishing process which I've been actively working on for six months, is providing this blog. I'm so thankful for each and every one of you who take the time to stop by and read! I'll be adding a link to Kelly's Country Squawk with every one of my submissions to show agents and publishers I have an audience.

I have so much more to write, stay tuned for more!

Thanks for reading my Country Squawk,

Kelly

Kelly:

I have read several of your children's stories, and I have found all of them to be charming. Good luck in finding a publisher, so that your work can find the audience it deserves.
