Hello New and Old Readers!
I've taken about a year and a half off from writing Kelly's Country Squawk to cross off a HUGE item on my bucket list...I am now a self-published author. Several of you have walked with me during this writing journey reading, critiquing, and cheerleading, reading, critiquing, and cheerleading, and on and on. I'm so thankful for each and every one of you!
In October, I published a story I wrote about seven years ago called Painter of the Sky. Out of the 15 book babies I have written, I had no doubt which one should be published first. Painter of the Sky was written in praise to God who "paints" beautiful pictures in the sky every day. I wanted to get kids to LOOK UP (most of them are always looking down at tablets and phones) and search for God's beauty wherever they go.
Whenever I write a story, I like to "try it out" on about 20 kids before I consider it a real children's book. Just like in the Velveteen Rabbit, a book doesn't become real until it's loved and enjoyed by a child.
I've read Painter of the Sky several times in the past seven years, but reading it to kids now is so much MORE fun! My illustrator, Marouane Htouk, illustrated beautiful pictures that pull my young readers into the story. Every time I turn a page inside the book, kids enthusiastically tell me their guesses on what picture God will paint next, making my heart smile. While I'm reading the story, I love when the kids closely hurdle around the book searching for the special "surprises" God paints for them in the sky.
Because publishing my first book has been so much fun, I'm working on my second one to come out later this year. Stay tuned for more....
Thanks for reading my Country Squawk,
Kelly
