My Writer's Block

A couple years ago my husband brought home a bottle of very dry red wine, one of my favorite treats. It was an impulse buy for him. He saw it while shopping at our local grocery store, and since the wine was named "Writer's Block" on the label, he immediately thought of me, his wifey....THE WRITER (what confidence he must have with my writing ability, haha). Because of the sentimental value of that bottle of wine, and the fact that my husband had finally acknowledged me as a real life writer, I've kept the bottle as a decoration in our bedroom.
Ever since the wine bottle was placed on top of my dresser, the name "Writer's Block" has taken on a whole new meaning and has come to represent a multitude of things in the back of my mind. The actual "Writer's Block" (the inability to figure out what to write about) has rarely been a problem for me, because I find that I'm extremely talkative while writing. I can ALWAYS find something to write about. I may be a bit quiet in person, but if I could write down the things I would like to say instead of blurting them out loud, I would be one of the most talkative people you would ever meet. Most of the things I write aren't worth reading, but that doesn't stop me....writing is an absolute joy of mine. I love putting stories and thoughts together on paper, especially unexpected, crazy, and silly things that will hopefully put a smile on my readers' faces. Words just flow out of me once my fingers hit the keyboard of my computer.
My "Writer's Block" empty wine bottle has now become my daily visual and bossy reminder that I need to write more often. As I get dressed in the morning, "Writer's Block" stares at me from my bedroom dresser tapping its toes impatiently waiting for me to start writing. As I lay down to sleep at night, "Writer's Block" hums the Jeopardy song very loudly trying to get me to wake up to write a new story, and it has worked. Some of my best stories have been written at 3:00 o'clock in the morning. I really don't think Mike, my hubby, knew the impact that a silly bottle could have on my daily thought process.
Should I toss my "Writer's Block" bottle away? Is that bottle doing nothing but give me endless trouble and keeping me up at night? Nope. I need to be reminded of my dream of becoming published someday. I love the constant push it creates within my mind to keep writing. And I absolutely love that my hubby gave me that bottle, because deep down, he thinks I might get published someday.
Thanks to Kelly's Country Squawk, I'm now spending about two to three hours a week writing! Woohoo! I know this is no where near the amount of time I should be spending on my favorite hobby, but it's definitely a start. Having a wonderful audience, like you, read my blog every week has been extremely motivational with my writing journey. Thank you so much for all your comments and feedback, every single one of them has meant the world to me!
Thanks for reading my Country Squawk,
Kelly
I think you are an excellent writer, and I am certain that you will be published someday if you don't give up hope and keep working at it.
Keep writing Kelly. I really enjoy your style.
