Let me introduce you to the not so famous, mommy of three, wife of a hardworking pilot, prepublished children's book author (and sometimes illustrator), absolute lover of animals and God's amazing nature, church going, country chick.....the one, the only Mrs. Kelly Poulin. It is truly an honor to start writing my own blog, my heart is racing writing this! I'm so excited!
I fell in love with books at a very young age and fell in love with writing when I took my first creative writing class in college. I've been writing off and on for 20 years, mainly stories for children. My Hoosier family moved out to the country in southeastern Michigan three years ago. Six months after we moved, the pandemic hit and we spent the next year learning how to do country living while separated from the world. We grew a huge garden, canned, built a chicken coop, homeschooled, had church at our house every Sunday with lots of people, crocheted blankets, learned to play the piano....we were so busy! Also during the pandemic, my brain and my heart decided to take a two year sabbatical with sleep. I would wake up constantly in the middle of the night greatly concerned with the pandemic world I was bringing my kiddos up in. So, instead of going crazy with wild worry, I vamped up my writing adventure and wrote about 10 stories the first year of the pandemic. Nearly every morning at 3 a.m. I would be down in my deep dark dungeon of a basement and laugh hysterically at the nonsense I was typing into my computer.
Well, those 10 stories have been rejected by over 200 publishers and agents, but they are still so dear to me. They were the friends that got me through the pandemic. I have a couple of my "friends" posted at Kelly's Library for you to enjoy. I love making people laugh and have fun. Some author's have a purpose with their writing, my purpose is to take the reader on a crazy adventure with an unpredictable ending. My blog will have a similar purpose. I write my best when I'm inspired by something someone says (primarily my kids), something I see outside, or situations I encounter. This blog will be filled with positive, silly, creative stories that I want to share with the world. A lot of my posts will be about country life, my continued writing adventure, the daily excitement that my kids always create, and lots of chicken drama (I'll explain later!).
Thank you for all the people that encouraged me to write (primarily my mom)!
Thanks for reading my first Country Squawk,
Kelly
