Bubble Man Pop

Writing has always been a fun hobby for me, but I don't quite remember the exact moment I discovered I wanted to write children's books specifically. Children's books have always been a favorite of mine to read, even before I had kids. I love how the author and illustrator interact with their readers on every page of the book. If it's well written, the reader is sucked into the story by reading the words, but is then hesitant to turn the page because the illustrations are so beautiful with vivid colors and imagination.

Four years ago, I had a hysterectomy and was laid up in bed for a week....quite boring. I had a notepad and pencil laying next to me in bed, and out of the blue (or Divine nudge), I started writing a story called Bubble Man Pop. My father in law had recently taught one of my boys to blow a bubble out of bubble gum, which inspired me to write this story. Bubble Man Pop is about a cowboy from the Wild, Wild West who is looking for a bubble blowing partner in crime. Learning how to blow a bubble with a gumball is very tricky business with a lot of spitting, flying wads of gum, stickiness, and tons of persistence. At the end of the story, and after a lot of blow, blow, blowing, Bubble Man Pop finally finds his partner. Together, they ride off into the sunset with their bubbles blowing proudly in the wind.

Bubble Man Pop is one of my favorite stories, not only because it was one of the first stories I wrote, but because it's also a fun motivational story for kids teaching the lesson, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again." It's also very fun to read out loud with a strong country accent.

Where can you find a copy of Bubble Man Pop? Unfortunately, Bubble Man Pop has been turned down by publishers and agents about 200 times, but I have high hopes that someday it will be published and on the shelves at Barnes and Noble. Until then, you can read my story at www.kellyscountrysquawk.com/bubble-man-pop.

Thanks for reading my Country Squawk,

Kelly
