Blacks and Whites

My least favorite colors are black and white. I know a lot of people love these colors and use them around their house or select these colors with the clothes they wear. I've heard the excuse that black is a slimming color or doesn't make you stand out as much. White makes everything look clean and fresh. Color is outside some people's comfort zone and looks gaudy. Even the popular "Farmhouse Decor" is primarily devoid of color using lots of grays, blacks, and whites. Whoever decided that the modern "Farmhouse" should look sterile has never been to an actual farmer's house. On my grandparent's farm, every wall was painted a pail aqua color and had purple accents (with wood colored baseboards). Farmers love colors! Look at the bright green and red tractors they drive everyday.
When my husband and I went house shopping several years ago, if I entered a house with trendy white baseboards, cream colored walls, and white kitchen cabinets, within the first few seconds it was out of the running for our dream house. Guess I'm not trendy. Call me old fashioned, but if something is made out of wood, it should be the color of wood. Something that looks like a cold hospital room is not a place I can call home. If you ask my five year old daughter what her favorite color is, it's RAINBOW....we just love colors in our family and it's an extra plus if it has beads, sparkles, or bling on it.
It makes it kind of ironic right now that I'm typing this post next to the most adorable, green eyed, black kitty named Jasper Jinx. My nine year old son, Brock, wanted a kitten for getting good grades at school this past fall. My husband finally caved in once I told him Brock had been cleaning litter boxes for my other cat this past year to show responsibility. Brock told me he wanted a black cat because his favorite cartoon character on TV is a super hero boy dressed like a black cat. Anyone heard of Cat Boy? I searched high and low for a black kitten from a rescue and finally found Jasper. He was four months old and scared to death of everyone he met when we got him. Now he is nearly a year old and the biggest flirt you'll ever meet. He has to know what everyone in the house is doing at all times, and when we least expect it, he will rub his tail against us to get our attention. We call it, "Jasper's giving us the tail!"
So although you will seldomly see me wear a black dress to work or to church, in several of my posts you will read about the new black baby in my life, Jasper Jinx, because he is awesome.
Thanks for reading my Country Squawk,
Kelly

Kelly:
I agree with you about colors. I have always thought that color of some kind makes most things more interesting than either black or white. The only exception I can think of is movies, where black-and-white sometimes creates a mood that I find very compelling.
Thank you for posting, and for introducing your readers to Jasper.
